I thought I’d take a moment to reintroduce myself to all my new followers!

I am a Saltwater Woman.

I am a Butchulla and Woppaburra woman.

I come from K’gari (previously, for a short period in history, known as ‘Fraser Island’) and Woppa (the Keppel Islands) in Queensland on my mother’s side, and my father was a Lardil man from Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

I grew up on country, travelling country, performing, reviving, and maintaining traditional song and dance.
My entire childhood was a beautiful whirlwind, a kaleidoscope of culture and colour.

I spent over 13 years in the Native Title space, representing my people on our Federal Native Title Claim and saw it through to a successful Consent Determination where our exclusive rights to country were recognised by the highest court in this country.

I have campaigned and advocated for our mob across political spaces, social issues, climate justice, and cultural awareness.

In 2023 I decided I just wanted to pour the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years—dyeing processes, gathering methods, weaving, beading, feather work, skins and furs—into wearable art that displays our beauty in all its essence.

And so, MumRed was born.

In just over a year, MumRed has made its mark, hitting the majority of Australia’s major runways, showcasing the richness of our culture stitched into every garment.

We’ve been featured in Vogue Magazine @vogueaustralia nominated across multiple categories in the National Indigenous Fashion Awards, and commissioned for the ARIA Awards @aria_official and the Logies @tvweeklogiesawards

But we’re not stopping there.

We’ve got BIG plans to go global—with an exciting new product range that’s all about body sovereignty and sustainability!

I find it quite ironic how the material aspects of our culture be so palatable to yt ppl but the lived experience of us is “distasteful “.

I created MumRed off the back of the Voice Referendum - to give an image to the voices that go so unheard in this country. So we can be seen. So we can be heard.

I’ve lost over 100 followers talking about invasion day and what it means LEGALLY - Not a personal opinion - but where the occupation of our stolen lands lie within the context of international law.

I have personal opinions regarding this - being born and raised under an illegal occupation, we all do - but it speaks volumes to why people are following me.

For the material. They follow for the pretty dresses. The surface level material aspects that display our beauty.

They don’t want to understand the history behind the strength and grace in that beauty.

The paths forged through resilience to be here, cracking the world open with our kaleidoscopic display of culture and creativity.

Invasion Day.

The recent reel I shared about the arrival of the First Fleet highlighted a shameful chapter in Australia’s history: the so-called “orgy of the First Fleet.” This event, often trivialized or dismissed, speaks volumes about the toxic psyche ingrained within Australian culture. It reflects the deep-rooted dehumanization and violence that shaped colonial foundations that continue to this day and particularly in how women—non-Indigenous and in particularly First Nations - have been subjugated and exploited.

MumRed is rooted in the decolonization of patriarchal standards imposed on us since colonization began. It is a reclamation of sovereignty, sexuality, femininity, fertility, and our sacred ways of being.

Through our creations, we honor and celebrate the divine connection between First Nations women and Country—a connection that colonial systems have tried to sever but never could.

But this story is not just history; its shadows persist today.

From the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered First Nations women to the epidemic of domestic violence and systemic inequities, these legacies continue to harm us.

MumRed stands as a sovereign response to this, reclaiming spaces of beauty and empowerment where our culture and stories take center stage.

We refuse to be defined by the narratives imposed upon us and instead celebrate the resilience and brilliance of our people.
